About Typing Test

This test times you typing a passage and reports both your speed in words per minute and your accuracy, so you can see the trade-off between the two.

Speed without accuracy is not useful. A high rate with frequent corrections generally produces less finished text than a steadier, cleaner pace.

How to take the test

  1. 1Begin typing the passage shown. Timing starts with your first keystroke.
  2. 2Work through the text at a pace you can sustain accurately.
  3. 3Review your speed and accuracy scores when the passage ends.

Improving over time

  • Test yourself regularly and track the trend rather than chasing a single best score. Progress in typing is slow and steady.
  • Use proper touch-typing technique with all ten fingers from the home row.
  • Slow down deliberately when accuracy drops below about 95 per cent. Speed built on errors does not hold.
  • Practise the specific keys you miss most. Weak keys are usually a small, identifiable set rather than a general problem.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as a good accuracy score?

Above 95 per cent is a reasonable target. Below that, correcting errors eats into your effective speed enough to outweigh a higher raw rate.

How often should I practise?

Short daily sessions of ten to fifteen minutes build muscle memory far more effectively than occasional long ones.

Does the passage difficulty affect my score?

Yes. Unfamiliar words, punctuation, and capitalisation all slow typing, which is why comparing scores is most meaningful across similar passages.
