Custom Timer

Set countdown timer

::
00:05:00

A timer you configure with your own intervals and repeats, for routines that need more than one countdown in sequence.

Interval work is the natural use. A circuit of thirty seconds on and fifteen seconds off, repeated eight times, is tedious to run on a single timer and trivial on one that handles the sequence for you.

How to use it

  1. Set the length of your work and rest intervals.
  2. Set how many times the sequence should repeat.
  3. Start, and the timer moves through the intervals automatically.

Common interval patterns

  • Tabata: twenty seconds of work and ten seconds of rest, repeated eight times, for four minutes total.
  • Circuit training: forty-five seconds on and fifteen off, cycled through a set of exercises.
  • Study intervals: twenty-five minutes of focus and five minutes of break, the basis of the Pomodoro method.
  • Stretching routines, holding each position for a fixed count before moving on.
  • Speaking practice, rehearsing sections of a talk to their allotted time.

Frequently asked questions

What is Tabata timing?
Twenty seconds of maximum effort followed by ten seconds of rest, repeated eight times for four minutes in total. It comes from research by Izumi Tabata on high-intensity interval training.
Can I set different lengths for work and rest?
Yes. Work and rest intervals are configured separately, which is what most training and study patterns require.
Does it signal between intervals?
Yes, the transition between work and rest is signalled so you do not need to watch the screen while exercising.
