About Math Challenge

Math Challenge presents arithmetic problems against a clock and asks you to answer as many as you can. Difficulty scales with your performance, so the problems track your actual level rather than a fixed one.

The value is in the retrieval. Working out a fact under mild time pressure, over and over, is what moves arithmetic from calculation into recall.

How to play

Getting faster

  • Learn the number bonds to ten and the times tables to twelve by heart. Almost every larger problem decomposes into these.

  • Practise in short regular sessions. Ten minutes daily builds recall far more effectively than an hour once a week.
  • Prioritise accuracy first and let speed follow. Fast wrong answers reinforce the wrong fact.
