About Maze Runner

Maze Runner drops you into a randomly generated maze and asks you to find the exit. Every round builds a new layout, so there is nothing to memorise between attempts.

Mazes look like a test of luck but are not. A few simple traversal rules will get you out of most layouts without ever retracing the same corridor twice.

How to play

  1. 1Move with the arrow keys or by swiping in the direction you want to travel.
  2. 2Explore the corridors, working outward from your starting position.
  3. 3Find the exit to complete the maze.
  4. 4Each new round generates a fresh layout, so no two runs are the same.

Techniques that work

  • Try wall following: keep one hand always touching the same wall and follow it. In any maze whose walls are all connected, this is guaranteed to reach the exit eventually.
  • Remember junctions rather than corridors. The decision points are what matter, and there are far fewer of them.
  • When you hit a dead end, return to the last junction and take a different branch, rather than wandering back through explored ground.
  • Head roughly toward the exit when you can see it, but be ready to move away from it, since the direct line is usually walled off.
  • Work outward methodically. Doubling back through territory you have already covered is the main way runs get slow.

Does the wall-following method always work?

It works in any maze where the walls form a single connected structure, which covers the great majority. It can fail in mazes with free-standing islands not attached to the outer wall.

Are the mazes always different?

Yes. Each round generates a new layout, so you cannot learn a route between attempts and every run is solved fresh.
