Collect questions anonymously before a meeting, so the ones people hesitate to ask out loud actually get asked.

Anonymity changes what gets asked. In any group with visible hierarchy, the questions people most want answered are frequently the ones nobody will put their name to.

How to use it

Making it work

  • Open submissions well in advance. Questions asked in the moment tend to be softer than ones people have thought about.
  • Answer the uncomfortable questions. Skipping them is noticed immediately and ends future participation.
  • Do not try to identify who asked what. Any suspicion that submissions are traceable destroys the mechanism.
  • Say when you cannot answer something and why. An honest refusal is far better received than an evasive answer.
  • Group similar questions rather than answering near-duplicates separately.

What if a question is hostile?
