How to Play

Run the classic guessing game with your team: three statements each, one false, and the group works out which. This version gives you somewhere to collect the statements and reveal answers together.

In a team setting it works best with people who know each other slightly. Colleagues who have worked together for years already know the answers, and brand-new teams have no basis to guess.

How to run it

  1. Everyone prepares three statements, two true and one false.
  2. One person shares all three.
  3. The team votes on which is the lie.
  4. Reveal and move on.

Running it with a team

  • Give people a couple of minutes to prepare. Statements invented on the spot are usually poor.
  • Encourage surprising truths rather than clever lies. Rounds where the truth is less believable are the best ones.
  • Cap discussion per person, or a team of twelve takes most of an hour.
  • Go first as facilitator to set the expected level of detail.
  • Let people pass. Not everyone wants to share personal facts with colleagues.

Frequently asked questions

How long does this take with a team?
One to two minutes per person including voting, so a team of ten takes fifteen to twenty minutes. Larger teams are better split into smaller groups.
Does it work with a team that knows each other well?
Less well, since colleagues often already know the answers. It works best with teams who know each other slightly, such as after a reorganisation or with new joiners.
What if someone does not want to take part?
Let them pass without comment. Compulsory personal disclosure at work costs more in goodwill than the activity gains.
